Last week we were surprised to find out that the weather forecast predicted rain and stormy weather. And yes, Monday morning was a bit cloudy and rainy but at 10 it had cleared up and turned into a nice day. The rest of the week has been sunny and dry. I keep looking at the temp meter in the swimming pool- always 28 C and the temp meter in Axels room, between 29 and 30. So I guess we should quit checking the weather forecast and just pull the curtains in the morning and take it as it comes.
Monday we took a trip to Waghor Aquarium near the beach of Ao Manao. The aquarium was nice. I am not sure how much Axel saw of it since he was more or less running through... It was an OK display, but nothing compared to the Palma Aquarium that is still an all time high visit in our memories.
Tuesday through Thursday, Ann and Arnold came visiting. It was so much fun seeing them here in Thailand. They were here in Huay Yang some years earlier and know lots of people in the neighbourhood. Now they find more entertainment in Cha-am, one hour north of Huay Yang, where they will be staying until late February. Mathias and I got to eat out and do some shopping without kids. It's amazing how efficient you can be without always answering questions like"Why do mussels die when you eat them?" We also had a nice family dinner out at Nishaville resort just down the road from here.
Friday was like any other day: Beachlife, lunch, siesta, go to swimming pool, dinner. The trademark towels that Mathias and I bought in Gambia are still with us. No time to wear them out when chasing wild kids on the beach...
Saturday morning was a little cloudy so we took a walk on the beach. I carried Sten in the Ergobaby-carrier as usual. That morning he fell asleep to the sound of waves crashing.
Today started off rainy so we decided take a trip to Thap Sakae. We had been told you could drive there on the moped without too much time on the freeway. Thap Sakae is a small town and we had a good time eating noodles and just visiting.
Mathias downloaded some maps from Google and using the tablet-PC's GPS receiver we could find our way easily. Backpackers nowadays update status as they hit the best spots right on target, I am sure!!! No need to worry about going in the wrong direction or getting lost. That is... as long as the battery does not run out. Luckily for us, it didn't, so we got there and home without the slightest worries. Or, rather, the excitement was of a different kind - we drove home during a thunderstorm. The lighting was about 3 km from us and the rain was pouring down. Compared to our Swedish rainy weather it always seem to dry up after the rains here, which is really nice. After one hour's rest we went off to the market to buy some dinner.
Our little warriors are doing so good over here. I am impressed by Stens good spirits even on days when he doesn't seem to eat much. He likes steamed rice, sticky rice, sausage, pancake, omelette, rice congee (chook), noodles and toast, and he gets his bottle at night so I think he will be fine. He can't be still for long. We love him so much.
Axel is enjoying himself with almost anything. Going into a shop in Thap Sakae is an adventure- today he got to pet a fish in a tank. He is constantly fascinated by natures creations: geckos, crabs, fish, birds, insects. He is in an out of every stand at the market, examining the different fish, pig heads, chicken feet etc. He is never afraid and always curious. He is holding up really well. One day I found and actually caught a small fish in one of the tidal pools on the beach and put it in a bucket we had brought with us. Then Mathias and Axel caught a crab and let it join the fish. For about two seconds there was a mini-aquarium, then a monoculture again, as the crab easily found dinner served. On one other night Axel and grandma Ann caught a gecko and kept busy chasing for insects to feed it.
