Experiencing Koh Tao

Last week we went to Koh Tao, not the whole family, just Mathias and me. Mathias knew about the trip but not the fact that I had booked diving classes for him. He was happy to find out that he got to take the PADI Open Water Diver Certificate once we got there. I stayed Sunday through Wednesday just to relax, snorkle and see the island of Koh Tao. Ann and Arnold came down from Cha-Am to take care of Axel and Sten in our house here in Huay Yang. We are ever so grateful to have this opportunity of having babysitters so close in this far away part of the world! Mathias stayed until Sunday the 16th to do a few more dives and get the PADI Advanced Open Water. Now we are both home again. We stayed at Sensi Paradise, a bungalow resort right by the Mae Haad beach and Master Diver's office. You might see some of the bungalows hidden by the green in the far end of this picture... or not. The thai people are good at not spoiling their country's beauty through careful architectural plann...

Back to beach

The rain kept pouring down last week. We went shopping since there wasn't much else to do. An oreo-no-bake-cheesecake made our evenings a bit more fun. In the daytime we played cards "Finns i sjön" and tried out Axel's new RC-car. The rainy week was good for Sten who started eating more than just rice and välling(gruel). Friday was the first day we could take a trip down to the beach in almost one week. Here is a photo of the chok a k a "congee"-sales woman at the market. Chok is a bland rice porridge with a little chicken or pork broth , perfect for babies.  Spending time on the beach is just great! Axel runs around collecting whatever garbage that comes in his way and Sten is happy just throwing sand on mum or dad. We are still trying out different ways to keep the boys, especially the little one, happy. The last couple of days we have let Sten sleep in my baby carrier while driving to some distant beach and put him down to rest once we get ther...

Business as usual

This week would go to history as our "do nothing week". I can't really recall what we have done. I haven't taken any particularily interesting photos. Our days are getting repetetive- pool or beach, lunch, Sten's afternoon rest and then market to buy food. Monday we went to a faraway beach near the Huay Yang camping ground. It has cabins for rent and tenting areas. The beach seems deserted and rocky. In the hill behind there is a nature trail. The shortest is 6 km and we are not thinking of taking the kids there... at least not without knowing more of what it is like. They say on the signs that it will take approx 3hrs, but the maps indicate that it is not uphill so that sounds unlikely. After beach we ate fruits that Mathias had prepared: Mangosteen, pineapple, tangerines, banana. There are so much delicious types of fruit here... And there is one stinky one: Durian. We bought it at the market, had it cut up and ate it at home. I could not really taste it as th...

When it rains, it pours

Last week we were surprised to find out that the weather forecast predicted rain and stormy weather. And yes, Monday morning was a bit cloudy and rainy but at 10 it had cleared up and turned into a nice day. The rest of the week has been sunny and dry. I keep looking at the temp meter in the swimming pool- always 28 C and the temp meter in Axels room, between 29 and 30.  So I guess we should quit checking the weather forecast and just pull the curtains in the morning and take it as it comes. Monday we took a trip to Waghor Aquarium near the beach of Ao Manao. The aquarium was nice. I am not sure how much Axel saw of it since he was more or less running through... It was an OK display, but nothing compared to the Palma Aquarium that is still an all time high visit in our memories. Tuesday through Thursday, Ann and Arnold came visiting. It was so much fun seeing them here in Thailand. They were here in Huay Yang some years earlier and know lots of people in the neighbourhood....

Froghunting

Last night the thunder and rain really came down on us. We could see the lightning strike and count to 4-5. At around 7 am the pouring rain has turned into a dripping and hopefully it will dry up until afternoon. I told Axel we might go hunting frogs so he is all exited.. The other night at a restaurant he found a frog that the owner of the restaurant helped him catch and keep in a plastic bottle with some water. Sadly enough (for A) but I guess happily enough for the frog it escaped it's new habitat overnight. Checking the long term forecast does not inspire. Luckily we are staying for more than just this upcoming week. Family activities might well be: visit with Ann & Arnold, shopping, Waghor Aquarium, Huai Yang Dog Rescue Center etc. This is where Huai Yang is located

Good Morning Huay Yang!

This is how we roll! "Oh no!"
