Experiencing Koh Tao

Last week we went to Koh Tao, not the whole family, just Mathias and me. Mathias knew about the trip but not the fact that I had booked diving classes for him. He was happy to find out that he got to take the PADI Open Water Diver Certificate once we got there. I stayed Sunday through Wednesday just to relax, snorkle and see the island of Koh Tao. Ann and Arnold came down from Cha-Am to take care of Axel and Sten in our house here in Huay Yang. We are ever so grateful to have this opportunity of having babysitters so close in this far away part of the world! Mathias stayed until Sunday the 16th to do a few more dives and get the PADI Advanced Open Water. Now we are both home again.

We stayed at Sensi Paradise, a bungalow resort right by the Mae Haad beach and Master Diver's office. You might see some of the bungalows hidden by the green in the far end of this picture... or not. The thai people are good at not spoiling their country's beauty through careful architectural planning. We had nice hotel breakfasts, good night's sleep in a bed on the floor with moquito net and all. It reminded us of the place we stayed at on Koh Lanta, Baan Lanta. One night we went to have dinner at a place up on the hill. One call to make the reservation and 20 minutes later a free ride came to pick us up. The reason for it being a Jeep became clear very soon as we saw and felt every bump in the narrow gravel road sitting on steel benches in the back of the truck. The view was excellent, the food was OK.

Mathias prepared for his first entry

Master Diver's boat with wet and dry area plus a sunroof for non- or tired divers.

One happy chap! Picture taken last day of the course by a fellow photographer.

Now that we are back in the house and Christmas season is about to start, many families have come to Jasmin Village. Finally some friends for Axel to play with around the pool.

No need to take swimming classes, he's got the hang of it already.

When Mathias was away we went to Jack's to eat as usual. We have been there on Friday's to eat burgers. Before sunset, while the big boys are fishing on the pier, Sten and I play some "Fyra i rad". I like eating at Jack's since they got a proper IKEA chair, saftey strap and all. It's how your priorities go when travelling with kids, haha.

The fishing rod Axel has is actually made out of a roof broom.

Final days on Koh Tao

After the second birthday cake of the year, the one for my birthday, we had no plans. We could go to Bangkok or south to Hua Hin or Huay Yang. Mathias wanted to take Axel diving or snorkeling, so we decided to go to Koh Tao. Could be fun showing the kids where mom and dad had been so many times. Took an early ferry Friday, a day with no wind (1m/s). The Lompraya pier in Chumpon Since decision was made quite hastily, we had an interesting journey to Chumpon. First one taxi to Huay Yang where we planned to have dinner at Maew's, but Maew's was closed. She was there since they have a shop which was open.  However, they don't serve food. She has lost a lot of weight and seem to be really sick, so I guess that is why. We had to eat so we went on to "BlĂ„ stolarna". A little tricky since they don't speak much English. Mathias got a ride with the nearby hairdresser back to Maew's to wait for the taxi driver. I ate with the kids in the meantime. No taxi came ...

Happy New Year 2015!

Today was Axels 7th birthday! I can't believe how much he has grown. He sure isn't that little boy anymore.  Last night we went to Kaew's restaurant for New Year's Party. Sten fell asleep at 8.30. We did some more drinks and desserts and headed back home one hour later. The food was good and we could have had 5 free drinks on the ticket but we did not manage that, as you probably understand. Kaew did not have as big a party as last year. Maybe people choose the beach (Jack's, Nong Pu's or some new place this year?) Last year it was crowded.  She had the girls doing traditional thai dancing like last year, very impressive and very cute. I will upload picture later. ( I still haven't found a way of charging my camera's battery so I am relying on Axel and Mathias's photos whenever I get a hold of them. Took one with the tablet though, of my sweet boys! Today we went to Black Mountain Water Park like previous years to celebrate Axel's birth...
